Course Description: | A thematic course exploring five fundamental features of all biological systems, including structure and function, information flow, energy and matter, interactions, and evolution. This section explores the many interactions between water and life. We will examine fundamental concepts of aquatic biology and ecosystem ecology, with a focus on water quality in lakes, rivers, and estuaries. These ecosystems host a tremendous amount of biodiversity and provide critical ecosystem services, but are often affected by human activity that is rapidly depleting and degrading important stores of water. Applications of science to water policy will be explored. |
Comments: | Open to Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, & 1st Years. Not open to those who took BIO 100*. Must also sign up for a BIO-100L section. |
